The Overlay link is a web page that draws nothing but the captions: transparent, no controls, no sign-in. You add it to your presentation software or video mixer as a web item once, and it follows every service on its own.
Get the link
- In Live Translation, open Settings, then Screens. Venue screens is already selected.
- The Overlay link · venue screens card is next to the preview (below it in a narrow window), above the Text settings.
- Pick the Language for this screen, then a Background and a Text colour. The link updates as you pick.
- Copy the link. Every combination works at the same time, so make one link per screen: an English screen and a Romanian screen are two links from the same card.
Add it as a web item, not as captions
Your software may have its own captions or subtitles feature. That feature uses its own service and cannot show SynaiConnect captions, whatever link is pasted into it. The overlay link goes into whatever your software calls a web page on a slide:
| Software | Add the link as | Not |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Studio | a Browser source | the captions or closed-caption plugins |
| vMix | a Web Browser input | a Title input |
| ProPresenter | a Web object in the editor | the built-in Captions feature |
| FreeShow | a Website item | the Captions item |
| Any browser | a full-screen browser window |
Check it before the service
The overlay is blank until someone speaks. That is on purpose, so nothing but captions is ever projected, but it means a working link and a broken one look the same before the service.
- Add
&preview=1to the very end of the link in your software. - A status box appears in the corner. It says whether the link was accepted, whether a session is running, and whether captions are arriving, with a sample caption line where the real ones will be.
- Once it says Receiving captions, remove
&preview=1again. The status box is never shown without it.
Nothing shows up?
- Is the session live? Nothing appears on any screen until it is.
- Is the language in the link one the session actually produces? A link for a language nobody is translating into stays blank.
- Does the web item cover the whole slide or canvas? The captions scale to the width of the item, so a narrow item only renders small type, but a short item cuts rows off the bottom.
- Was the link regenerated? Regenerate on the Overlay link card invalidates every link that was pasted anywhere, on purpose. Every screen then needs the new one.
