Get the overlay link first: Show captions on a screen or in your video mixer explains where it is and which colours to pick.
- Open the presentation the captions should live in and click Edit in the toolbar. If the captions should stay on top of your other slides, build a Prop instead (View, then Props); the Prop editor has the same tools.
- Click the globe icon in the editor toolbar. A Web object appears in the middle of the slide.
- With the object selected, the Shape panel on the right shows Fill set to Web. Paste the overlay link into the URL field under it and press Return. The page loads in the editor straight away.
- Make it cover the whole slide: drag its handles to the slide edges, or set Position to 0 and 0 and Size to 1920 by 1080 in the Shape panel. Keep the slide background empty so only the captions show.
- Back in Show, trigger the slide or the Prop when the service starts and leave it on. It follows every session by itself, so the same slide works next week without any change.
- Sound check: add
&preview=1to the end of the URL and watch the output preview for the status box. Remove it once you see Receiving captions.
- Keep Background on Transparent on the Overlay link card so your slides show through. Transparent makes the page see-through, but the box behind the words stays. To show just the letters, set Text background to 0 under Settings → Screens, usually with a Text outline so they stay readable.
- Size the Web object to the full slide. Type size and line breaks follow the object width (1920 pixels is the reference for the font setting), so a narrow object shrinks the captions, and an object shorter than the slide cuts rows off the bottom.
- These steps were walked through on the macOS version. On Windows, if the object stays blank with
&preview=1on, send us a screenshot of it.
