Live captions in any browser, on a screen with no software

Open the overlay link full screen on the computer wired to the screen. Pick a background colour, because on its own the overlay is transparent.

Get the overlay link first: Show captions on a screen or in your video mixer explains where it is.

  1. On the Overlay link card, set Background to Black, or to a colour that suits the hall, before copying the link. With nothing behind it, a transparent overlay shows the browser window.
  2. Open the link in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on the computer connected to the screen.
  3. Go full screen: F11 on Windows, Control-Command-F on a Mac. Turn off screen sleep in the system settings so the display never blanks mid-service.
  4. Leave it open. The page finds each new session by itself, so the same tab works next week and the week after.
  • Add &preview=1 to the URL for a status box during sound check, and remove it before the service.
  • For a screen the congregation reads on their own, the guest link is the better fit: it has a language picker and its own reading theme (set Theme to Dark under Settings → Screens → Phones & QR code for a hall screen). See Share a caption link.
